The event nights cluster on weekends, expanding into Thursday and Sunday evenings through October as the season builds to its November 1 finale. On event dates, daytime park admission gets you into SCarowinds, but the individual haunted mazes require the separate Haunted Attractions Pass or a bundle, so check the official site before you buy. Nights run late, so plan your sleeping-in strategy accordingly.

For families with teens: this is the event your teenagers have been waiting for. It is the socially acceptable way to get the whole crew out of the house on a fall weekend, and for relocating families, it is a brilliant way to prove to the kids that the new city has serious fun. Start with the tamer zones and graduate to the mazes as the night goes.

For thrill-seeking empty-nesters: do not let the teenage reputation fool you. Adults make up a large share of the crowd, and there is something deeply satisfying about riding a big coaster under the stars with fog rolling through the midway.
