The city bills it as the unofficial start of holiday shopping, which is a smart way to think about it. October and November have a way of filling up fast around here, so picking up gifts early at a lakeside craft market is a genuinely pleasant win.

Expect booths selling handmade goods, artwork, and seasonal decor, plus food vendors so you can make an afternoon of it. Catawba Park itself has playgrounds and open lawn, which means the kids have somewhere to run even after they have circled the vendors twice. The vibe is small-town South Carolina at its best, friendly, unhurried, and full of neighbors who wave at each other by name.

For relocators weighing lake living: this is your event. Catawba Park sits in the middle of Tega Cay, which means a festival day here doubles as a driving tour of the neighborhoods I show most often, from established lakefront streets to the newer family communities. You can see the parks, the lake access, and the pace of life in one afternoon, then decide if the whole lake town experience is for you.

For empty-nesters: the craft market is the draw, hands down. This is where you find the one-of-a-kind pieces that make a downsized home feel personal, and the vendor lineup skews to quality handmade work rather than mass-market trinkets. Bring a list of who is on your holiday gift list and knock out a chunk of it with good taste.

For families: free admission, playgrounds, and food vendors are a low-stress equation. Catawba Fest is a short drive from Fort Mill and Lake Wylie too, so it is easy to combine with a state line day trip.

03 Plan Your Visit

Arrive mid-morning to beat the heat and the crowds, and bring a hat and water. The park fills up as the afternoon goes on. After the market, treat yourself to a slow drive around the lakefront neighborhoods; the fall color on the water is at its peak right around the last week of September, and it is a preview you will not get from any listing site.
